About Us

The Washington County Northstars are a high school hockey program based in Hagerstown, MD since 2008. All players attending a high school in Washington County, MD are eligible to play. We are a part of the Monocacy Valley conference which is a part of the MSHL (Maryland Student Hockey League).

Coach Sweeney has been playing hockey since he was 5 years old. He played his youth career in Hagerstown for the Bulldogs and played high school hockey for the Northstars. After his youth and high school career he played 4 years of ACHA Division 1 College Hockey at Lebanon Valley College. He currently assists in running the rink power skating, learn to play and jr. hammerheads programs in addition to coaching the Northstars. Coach Wetzel brings 25+ years of playing and coaching experience to the Northstars. Coach Wetzel played ACHA Division 1 College Hockey at Towson University. In addition to Northstars Coach Wetzel also assists in running the rinks power skating, learn to play and jr. hammerheads programs.
